U.K. forms first Enterprise Environmental Committee
Enterprise has begun to look beyond its fleet to ensure its operational activities remain as environmentally friendly as possible.
Chaired by Senior Vice President of European Operations Jim Burrell and U.K. National Marketing Manager Oz Choudhri, the Enterprise Environmental Committee (EEC) represents the company’s first committee created to address the principles of its environmental platform. The group, comprised of one representative from Ireland and one from each of the U.K.’s nine operating groups, started meeting quarterly on Sept. 25.
“Our customers and business partners want to do business with companies that share their growing concern for the environment,” says Oz. “The committee will further communicate our initiatives to our employees and customers, and share ideas about new steps we can take to demonstrate environmental responsibility.”
Initiatives discussed at the Sept. 25 meeting included a wastewater recycling program used when washing vehicles; recycling of paper, plastic and office materials; the use of energy-efficient light bulbs inside branches and on signposts; and participation in an office furniture recycling program.
“Our hope is that the best practices shared by the committee will be adopted across the company,” says Jim. “Initiatives practiced by one group can make an enormous impact when put to use companywide.”
