At Enterprise, we’re committed to managing our business sustainably, both now and in the future – because what we do today matters even more tomorrow. That’s why we work tirelessly to balance the interests of our customers, our employees and the parts of the world we touch with our business.

Driving Futures

We have a great story to tell about sustainability and we decided it was time for us to talk about it on a dedicated website. Driving Futures is based around our legacy, foresight and innovation, and it’s where you’ll find out about the many initiatives we’re pioneering across all our locations.

Our 50 Million Tree Pledge is a great example. We intend to plant all these across France, Spain, the US, Canada, Britain, Ireland and Germany over 50 years. We’re also committed to reducing our energy costs and energy use by 20% over the next five years. To make sure we stay on track we compiled our first ever Enterprise Holdings Sustainability Report in 2011. From renewable fuels to advancing vehicle technologies it openly addressed our business practices and outlined our vision for the future.

As our business expands, so too does our opportunity to help provide solutions to the world’s growing mobility issues. But our sustainable mobility strategy isn’t focused solely on using automobiles to physically move people from one place to another, as we outline in our 2015 Sustainability Report. We now operate our business in ways that take  sustainable mobility further, driving environmental improvements and technology, and  helping people and communities move forward.

You can also find out more about these sustainability developments and more at the Driving Futures website.

Our Environmental Platform

As the world’s largest vehicle rental company, the emphasis we place on sustainability and environmental initiatives is massive. Back in 2007, we launched our Environmental Platform – an initiative made up of five pillars, each addressing a core element of sustainability through sensible long-term solutions designed to reduce emissions, develop alternative technologies and improve our environment.

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Corporate Environmental Platform consists of five areas:

  • Conservation – The 50 Million Tree Pledge

Enterprise has joined with the National Arbor Day Foundation in the US to plant 50 million trees over the next 50 years. To date, over 5 million trees have been planted in the UK, Germany, Canada and the United States.

  • Fuel efficiency

We are committed to paying close attention to buying cleaner, greener cars and vans. Across Europe, our fleet of cars currently averages 47 mpg and we constantly work with manufacturers to ensure we have access to the lowest CO2 vehicles available.

  • Alternative technologies

Enterprise is committed to introducing new, cleaner fuel and engine technologies to our fleet as they become commercially viable. Throughout Europe we operate a number of hybrid vehicles and we are constantly reviewing new options as they become available.

  • Research and development

In 2007, $25 million was donated to establish the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Centre in the United States. The institute is working to develop acceptable and affordable alternatives to fossil fuels.

  • Carbon offset

In March 2009 we launched our Carbon Offset programme. This gives retail customers booking online on our website, or via our national reservation centre, the opportunity to offset the emissions of a typical Enterprise rental. The programme helps reduce CO2 by funding verified carbon reduction projects through our chosen partner ClimateCare.
